Bali is the world's most popular honeymoon destination for good reason. Here's how to plan the perfect romantic escape to the Island of the Gods.
Bali has been casting its spell on honeymooners for decades, and it's not hard to understand why. The combination of lush landscapes, ancient temples, world-class spas, and genuinely warm Balinese hospitality creates an atmosphere that feels tailor-made for romance. The question isn't whether to go — it's how to make the most of your time there.
Start in Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. Stay in a private villa with a rice terrace view — there are dozens of stunning options at every price point. Spend your mornings exploring the Tegalalang rice terraces, your afternoons at a traditional Balinese spa, and your evenings watching the Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu Temple as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.
After three or four nights in Ubud, move to Seminyak or Nusa Dua for the beach portion of your honeymoon. Seminyak has the best restaurants and beach clubs, while Nusa Dua offers more secluded, resort-style luxury. Both are excellent choices depending on your preference for lively versus tranquil.
For something truly special, consider a day trip to Nusa Penida — a wilder, less developed island just a 45-minute fast boat from Sanur. The cliffs at Kelingking Beach are among the most dramatic in Southeast Asia, and the snorkelling at Crystal Bay with manta rays is an experience you'll talk about for years.
Expert Tips
Book a private villa rather than a hotel room — the price difference is often minimal and the experience is incomparable.
Visit Uluwatu Temple for the sunset Kecak dance — book tickets in advance during peak season.
Avoid Bali in July and August if you prefer quieter beaches — April to June is ideal for honeymooners.
